Many investors, who have investments in Germany and Canada, are often unaware of the fact that the two countries have different regulations and views regarding responsibilities, the applicable property and inheritance law, the drafting of last wills or the execution and administration of the estate. Without proper planning and prearrangement, heirs may face lengthy and expensive inheritance proceedings in the event of succession which also involve the additional risk that the Canadian authorities will appoint foreign executors. During detailed discussions with our clients, we will identify their wishes in advance, provide advice on various options, review the desired estate planning together with the specialists from our network, and coordinate the entire implementation process. For some of our clients, we are also appointed as “Canadian Executors” in Canada and as executors in Germany to ensure that the testator’s wishes and ideas are fully taken into account and fulfilled even after the inheritance event.
